Built by the grind. Raised by the mic...
J Walker, better known as R.U.D.E., was born in Washington, D.C., just blocks from 7th & N Street, known as "Wood Terrace." Raised in a tough Northwest neighborhood surrounded by drugs and violence, R.U.D.E. turned adversity into art. The streets shaped his perspective—and unknowingly, groomed a rapper who would later use that reality as fuel for his music.
R.U.D.E. began rapping at 16, inspired by the raw truth in 2Pac's lyrics. He started entering local rap battles, where he didn’t just show up—he dominated. Rap became his escape, pulling him away from the corner and into studio sessions and citywide events with peers who believed in the dream.
After losing close friends Big Son, Neal, and Pee Wee to senseless violence and tragedy, R.U.D.E. hit a dark chapter. He coped the only way he knew how—through music. That pain birthed his first single and video, “I Love My Hood”, a tribute to the place that made him.
Originally signed to a local indie label, R.U.D.E. grew frustrated with delays and took control. He started burning his own CDs, selling them in neighborhood stores and at local events. He built his name, his brand, and eventually his own label and clothing line: Determined Allegiance Trust (D.A.T.).
In 2014, R.U.D.E. came back strong with his mixtape, “The Big Pay Back,” available on iTunes and Tidal. Featuring videos for nearly every track, the project reflects his grind, loyalty, and love for the community. As R.U.D.E. puts it, “This is more than just a mixtape—it’s really the big payback. Watch and see.”
Through every setback and success, R.U.D.E. remains humble, driven, and deeply committed to giving back. Whether performing six shows in six weeks, running charity events, or staying active on the streets that raised him—Real Talk R.U.D.E. lives up to his name.
